Gripen Gas AS has been awarded five licenses to for gas exploration in the Alum shale formation.The Swedish Mines Inspectorate (Bergsstaten) granted the five exploration licenses (Ekeby, Hov, Eneby, Orlunda and Skedet) totaling 224 square kilometers in the Cambro-Ordivician basin of Östergötland County.
